Richard A. Luemen, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was a man of unwavering courage and service, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to his country and community.

Born and raised with a strong sense of duty, Richard proudly served his nation in the U.S. Army as a Specialist 5 (SP5) during the Vietnam War. He served with distinction in the First Calvary Division and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action, a testament to his bravery and sacrifice.

Upon returning home, Richard continued his commitment to public service by joining the Chicago Police Department, where he served with honor and integrity for 31 years. His dedication to protecting and serving the city of Chicago was evident throughout his long and distinguished career.

Richard was a loving husband of 54 years to Maureen nee Gelecke. Their enduring love was a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew them. He was a devoted father to Jessica (Michael) Luemen-Dolhon and Jamie (Christopher) Luemen Rhoads, instilling in them the values of compassion, resilience, and family.

His role as a grandfather was one of his greatest joys. He cherished every moment spent with Kylie (fiance Joseph) Magnis, Madeline (Darrion) Pollard, Warren (Wade) Magnis, Samuel (Liv) Rhoads, Abagail Luemen, and Benjamin (Shyanna) Luemen. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Inara, Ellana, and Coraline, who brought immeasurable happiness into his life.

Richard was deeply involved in veterans' affairs, holding leadership positions in several organizations. He served as the past 3rd District Commander of the VFW, Commander of American Legion Post 757, and multiple-time Commander of Johnson Phelps V.F.W. Post 5220. His dedication to his fellow veterans was steadfast, and he worked tirelessly to ensure their needs were met and their sacrifices were honored.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his plethora of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Funeral Monday, March 24th 9:30 am from Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home, 5570 W. 95th St in Oak Lawn to St. Denis Church in Chicago for Mass at 10:30 am.

Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

Visitation Sunday, March 23rd from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
