Bernadette C. Magana
Bernadette Catherine Magana nee McVerry
Bernadette was born June 26, 1938 in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, the second of thirteen children. In 1955, she immigrated to Chicago to better support her family. Her determination, combined with organizational skills and intellect enabled her to find work as a bookkeeper.
With Ireland becoming more prosperous, she was preparing to return home, so David Magana asked her to remain in the US and become his wife. They married May 28, 1960. Together they raised four children, Vera Maynard, Laura (David) Price, Christine (Thomas) Biedryzcki, and David Magana.
With the children in school, Bernadette re-entered the work force and went on to manage the payables department at Marshall Field's flagship store. She finished her career at TransAmerica.
Bernadette was a selfless mother, who stressed learning and independence. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren, Kelly Dolezal, Brian Maynard, Sarah Price, Lauren Magana, David J. Magana, and great-grandchildren, Madison Dolezal, Joshua Maynard, Audrey Dolezal and Ethan Maynard,
Bernadette was an avid reader, volunteered in her church, loved walking, and enjoyed traveling. She will be remembered for the glint in her eyes and generous spirit.
