Madeline E. Hughes

Madeline Eugenia Hughes nee Kennelly, was born into eternal life on October 23, 2024.  Beloved wife of the late Michael F Hughes for 59 love-filled years. Recent resident of Smith Village, Chicago. Resident of Oak Brook Club, Oak Brook, IL.

Loving mother of Peg Hughes & the late Matthew Hughes. Proud daughter of the late Madeline and Daniel Kennelly. Beloved sister of Sr. Nancy Kennelly, IBVM, Daniel (Joann) Kennelly and the late Eugene “Gene” (Lyn) Kennelly. Fond sister-in-law of the late Edward (Dorothy), Rita (the late Edmund) Casarotto, Cyril (Barb), Bernadette (the late Ralph), and Joseph (Maggie). Amazing aunt of many nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. Faithful and giving friend to many.   

In the spirit of her Irish heritage, Madeline loved all of the frequent family celebrations.  Madeline treasured her time with Mike, family and friends at their condo on Lake Michigan, cheering on the Fighting Irish at Notre Dame football games, as well as traveling to many countries around the world.

Throughout her life, Madeline held onto her strong Catholic faith to sustain her in times of joy and sorrow. She had a deep devotion and love of the Blessed Mother often stating “Mary and I have this thing.”

Madeline’s generous heart supported many charities, some of which include: The Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Off the Street Club, Misericordia Home, Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, Covenant House and Mercy Ships.

Madeline and Mike were married at St. Cajetan Church and now she returns there for her final journey home. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday October 30th at St. Cajetan Church 2445 W. 112th St. in Chicago. Visitation will be at St. Cajetan Church on Wednesday October 30th from 9:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00.  Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
