Dorothy E. Thiel

Dorothy E. Thiel, 83 died peacefully on October 11, 2024.

She was born to Hazel (Corderman) Sender and Leonard Nobis and was raised in Chicago.

She is survived by her daughters Karen (Michael) Heffernan, Julie (James) Sullivan, her sister Nancy Goetz, and 7 grandchildren; Megan (Martin) Corr, Matthew Heffernan, Daniel Heffernan, Brendan (Emma) Heffernan, Ryan (Taylor) Kent, Ellen Kent and Catherine Kent in addition to 7 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Thiel, parents Hazel Sender and Leonard Nobis, sister Myrtle (Dolly) Sender.

Dorothy prided herself on being independent and worked tirelessly to have the freedom to make her own decisions and live her life on her own terms. She loved to travel and shared that love and adventurous spirit with many of her grandchildren by taking them on numerous trips.

She valued education and while she started college right after high school at the University of Dubuque, she completed her degree work many years later at Elmhurst College after she raised her family.

Visitation Saturday, October 19th from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm. at Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home, 5570 W. 95th St. in Oak Lawn.
