Peter Gutierrez
Born October 19, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, Peter (“Pete”) Gutierrez was the son of Margarito and Julia (Martinez) Gutierrez. He graduated from Eisenhower High School in Blue Island. Following high school, Pete served in the United States Army and received The Medal of Good Conduct for his honorable and faithful service. After returning from the Army, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Whitlock Moore, and they married on June 2, 1962.
Pete was known for his strong work ethic. He retired from Rheem Manufacturing, where he never missed a workday. He then worked for School District 143 ½ in Midlothian as a custodian for many years.
Pete accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was an active member of Central Christian Church in Harvey and Hillcrest Christian Church in Hazel Crest.
Pete exuded unwavering loyalty to his family, friends, and country. Pete will be remembered for his resounding voice, infectious laugh, and love for Elvis. Pete was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and rarely missed a game. He even sang his version of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” during the seventh-inning stretch, which could be heard throughout his house and next-door neighbor’s.
Pete was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth; his parents, Julia and Margarito; his brothers, Paul (Marilyn), Louis (Judy), Robert, and Frank (Virginia); and his sister, Juanita.
Left to honor his memory are his sister, Monica (Doug) Fletcher, and his five children, Peter (Angela) Guiterrez Jr., Paula (Stanley) Morris, Betty Sue Martinez, Howard (Michelle) Moore, and James (Vanita “Lynn”) Moore; 18 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom will continue to carry his legacy forward with love and pride.
Pete Guiterrez will forever remain a cherished presence in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he and all who await him in heaven find peace and eternal rest.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home, 5570 W. 95th St. in Oak Lawn, on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
Interment Chapel Hills Gardens South Cemetery
