Dolores E. Garrity
Dolores Garrity passed on Sunday, November 26th in her home of 67 years surrounded by her loved ones.
Dolores was born on the west side of Chicago and was 1 of 8 children. She attended St Roman’s Elementary and Harrison High School. She was proud of her Polish heritage.
She married her loving husband in 1949. They were blessed with their son Robert Garrity. When her late husband passed she demonstrated her resiliency and hard working attitude, she retired when she 77. She was grateful to gain a daughter in-law Margaret O’Brien Garrity. She was over-joyed when she became a grandmother to her two granddaughters Ellen Garrity Silkensen and Clare Garrity.
Dolores found happiness in family picnics, card parties with her siblings, road trips across America, senior club meetings, bus trips with her friends, family dinners out, reading the Chicago Tribune, cheering on her Chicago Bulls and White Sox’s, baking desserts, attending musicals, discussing Chicago history and quality time with her family.
Her legacy will continue to live on through her son Robert Garrity and daughter in-law Margaret O’Brien Garrity, granddaughter Ellen Garrity Silkensen and grandson-in-law Scott Silkensen and granddaughter Clare Garrity. Her siblings Frances Arden, Charlene Folkens and Marcia Rudny— and in-laws Arlene Szydlo, Maura Szydlo , Donna Szydlo, Eileen Williams, and Marilynn Haw. As well as her beloved nieces and nephews.
She joins her husband Emmet Garrity, siblings Joan Neiman, Gene, Stanley, Dick Szydlo and in-laws Steve Arden, Roger Folkens, Leonard Neiman, Richard Garrity, James Haw, Edward Garrity, Peggy Buck, Joe Buck and many other loved ones in heaven.
Dolores had many sayings she used, but she always thought the following was the most classy way to say goodbye, “ don’t be sad it’s over, be glad it happened!”
