Kathryn “Kay” Maciaszek (nee Grencevicz) died peacefully surrounded by the love of her family.
Kathryn was born in Chicago to Peter Grencevicz (d.1972) and Marie (Leber) Grencevicz (d.2001). She attended St. Dennis grade school and graduated from Bogan High School with the class of 1965. After working briefly with Illinois Bell, Kathryn worked for the FBI for 5 years. She then joined Smithbucklin as an Event Planner for the next 12 years, traveling to great locations across the country.
Kathryn retired from Advocate Christ Hospital as Medical Student Coordinator fo OB/Gyne in 2020. She was able to guide many new medical students as they entered their residency for 31 years
Her love of animals, especially birds and cats, always brought joy to her heart. She was a faithful giver to all animal causes and always had a soft spot for all creatures.
Always looking for a new adventure, she loved her travels to Lake Geneva, Palm Springs, Vienna, Bratislava, Mexico, Ireland, London and San Miguel, CA.
On May 23, 2021, Kathryn married Larry Maciaszek. Although they were classmates in grade school at St. Dennis and at Bogan, they did not know each other then but reunited at a class reunion in 2017.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marie “Mitzie” (Leber) and Peter Grencevicz, her grandparents, Kathryn & Anton Leber and John & Magdalena Grencevicz.
In addition to her husband Larry, Kathryn is survived by loving cousins, Beverly Murer, Susan Langjahr, Joanne Grencius, Joanie Mullen, Jennifer Hein, Mary Mullen, Norm Grencius, Jerry Grence and Bob Nabazas and her beloved cat “Mitzi” and her birds.
A special thank you to her beloved Christ Hospital family for the love and support throughout her career and her journey through her illness, especially Dr. Scott Strote and Dr. Michael Savin. Kathryn and her family will always be grateful to the Advocate Hospice South team, especially Akeila & Trencie, caregivers My Lin, Irene, Lanie from Maureen’s Angels and Dr. Bassem Chaar for all their excellent care. Kathryn’s cousins and special friends, Beverly Rahm, Jean Beyer, Cynthia Foster and Rosemary Carroll have always been a source of fun, joy and support to her.

Funeral Friday May 6 at 10:15 am from Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home, 5570 W. 95th St. in Oak Lawn to St. Linus Church for Mass at 11:00 am.
Visitation Friday May 6 from 8:30 am until the time of Prayers at 10:15 am.
Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, Illinois.
