Devoted husband of Marie, nee O’Brien for 57 years.
Loving father of Robert (Pamela), Thomas (Michelle), Christine (Daniel) Goeppner, Michael (Anya) Child.
Proud Grandpa of Kevin, Scott, Laura, Abigail, Madison Child, Daniel, Joshua, Jacob, Jonathan Goeppner, Nora, Carter Child, Michelle Ciecwierz and Preston Cheung.
Fond brother of the late William (Judy), the late Joseph (Martha) Child.
Bob is survived by his sister Margaret Child.
Beloved brother-in-law of the late Thomas (the late Jeanne), Jack (late Beverly), and Richard (Betty) O’Brien.
Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Bob was born on April 12, 1934 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Louise (Helm) Child and the late William Child. Proud U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. Bob signed up for Airborne Intercept Class at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was sent to Atsugi, Japan joining VMF (AW) 513 an all weather fighter squadron named the Flying Nightmares.
Bob was discharged in August 1957 from the Marines. He went on to Notre Dame. He was all things Notre Dame and a true man for others. A proud graduate of ND where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. It was at Notre Dame Bob met his forever friend George Macor.
He later went on to Northern Illinois University earning a Master of Science in Education Degree. He worked as a School Business Manager for A.E.R.O. Special Education Cooperative for 24 years and 1 year for North Dupage Special Education Cooperative.
Bob was a long time parishioner of St. Gerald Church in Oak Lawn. It was here he happily coached boys basketball, worked as a bartender during the Variety Show and counted on the collection team for 15 years. He volunteered for Oak Lawn Park District Playhouse for many years.
The family is asking in lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in his memory to St. Gerald School, 9310 S. 55th Court, Oak Lawn, IL 60453 would be greatly appreciated.
Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Funeral Friday 9:15 am from Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home, 5570 W. 95th St. in Oak Lawn to St. Gerald Church for Mass at 10:00 am.

Visitation Thursday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
