After a long health battle, Jack Karl Cushing died in Naples, Florida on Sunday, March 28th. He was born November 7, 1946 to the late Theodore Kenneth Cushing and Betty Jane (Myers) Cushing. He was married for 52 years to Karen (Pearse) Cushing. He is survived by his sons, Matthew (Angie) and Adam (Jaime) and his adored grandchildren Luke, Ella, Claire, Abigail, Dana, and Alex. Jack is also survived by his sister Susan Rodman (Patrick) and brother Ted (Betty) as well as Karen’s siblings, Carl Pearse (Gloria), Steve Pearse (Suzanne), Merry Beth Seward (Jim), and Tami Byczek (Jim). He will be greatly missed by his 15 nieces and nephews, and 15 great nieces and nephews. He grew up in and lived in Beverly most of his life and many will remember the PEACE sign he hung on their home at Christmas. Jack will also by missed by the Chicago rugby community. After playing for the South Bend Rugby team and the Chicago South Side Irish team, he coached rugby at the high school and college level for 40 years. He founded the rugby program at Mt. Carmel High School and was one of the men responsible for starting high school rugby in the state of Illinois. Besides his family, his passion was kids, sports, and kids in sports. Jack never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, however sweaty it may be. He believed in working hard and playing hard and was a husband, father, coach, mentor, and friend to countless people of all ages. Services for Jack Cushing will be next weekend. There will be a wake on Friday April 9 at Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home, 5570 W 95th St, in Oak Lawn from 3-9 . The funeral will be at 10 a.m. April 10 at St. Barnabas in Chicago. Covid restrictions will be in place for both. The funeral home will limit the number of people in the building at one time and you must register online through the church for the funeral. Family members will be sent a link to sign up and we will post it publicly as soon as we get relatives squared away. There is a 200 person limit for Mass.
