James R. Ligue, Sr.

 
 

James Robert "Bob" Ligue Sr., 87, of Chicago, died Sept. 30 at his home in Canaryville surrounded by family.

Bob was born in Chicago to John and Grace (Venn) Ligue on Sept. 5, 1934. He was the youngest of their 15 children. He married Vivian Kelly on June 9, 1956, and they had five children. He was an avid golfer, bowler and collector, particularly after his retirement from the city of Chicago. A parishioner of St. Gabriel parish, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at frequent family gatherings, as well as regular winter trips to Florida with his companion of 18 years, Rose Platt.

Bob, the youngest of 15 siblings, was preceded in death by his parents; wife Vivian Ligue; sisters Irene, Ruth, Alicia, Winnie, Agnes, Marie, Betty, Loretta and Mickey; brothers Jack, Joe, Bussey, Buddy and Pete; and grandson Matthew Brooks.

He is survived by children James (Michelle) Ligue of Orland Park, Mike Ligue of Orland Park, Kelly Hacker of Chicago, Michelle (Roy) Brooks of Crown Point, Ind., and Kerry (Matt) Erickson of Schererville, Ind; grandchildren Katie (Mike) Hermle, Sara (Jay Power) Ligue, Michael Ligue, Danny (Megan Olson) Ligue, Robert Ligue, Jessica Hacker, Joe Brooks, Adam (Taylor Burkes) Hacker and Emma Brooks; great-grandchildren Michael Hermle and Allison Hermle; and companion Rose Platt.

Seldom without a joke, a whistle or a snippet of a song, Bob was beloved and will be missed by all who knew him.

A Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 600 W. 45th St., Chicago.
