Eva McCluskey

Oak Lawn, IL

Eva McCluskey (McGill), at the age of 86 passed away into the loving arms of God on Friday, June 19, 2020. Eva was born in Holytown, Scotland on June 5, 1934 to parents John and Antaszia (Tess) McGill.  At the age of 23 she came to America to live with her husband’s Aunt Anne and Uncle Phil Kane in Chicago.  While she lived in this country for over sixty two years she always remained a British Subject because it gave her a feeling of being close to her family back home.  She also never seemed to lose her strong Scottish accent because at the heart of it she always remained a Scot.  Most of her years were spent on the South Side of Chicago, but when her children were grown she eventually settled in Oak Lawn, IL.  Having never obtained a driver’s license she like to be near public transportation, because if she couldn’t walk to where she needed to go she always had a bus token or bus pass to get her to her destination.  Most of her working career she worked in Downtown Chicago at Time Incorporated and AON Insurance.  Even though it took her two or three buses to get down to her job, most mornings she was in Downtown early enough to be able to attend mass and still be one of the first ones into the office.  Outside of work, all of her time was dedicated to raising her four children all on her own and making sure that they had everything they needed to become successful adults.  She also found the time to cook wonderful meals followed by many different delicious baked goods.  Of all of the baked goods she could create, her trays of frosted apple slices were always the star of the show at family gatherings.  Later in life right through retirement, she always cherished every moment she could get with her grandchildren and eventually her great grandchildren.

Eva is survived by her four children, Terri (Dave) Lundy, Anne (Sean) McClain, Robert (Carolyn) McCluskey, and John (Susan) McCluskey, as well as her seven grandchildren, Christine (Jim) Celeski, Brian (Jessie) Lundy, Tracy (Mike) Haraf, Andrew McCluskey, Katie McCluskey, Matthew McCluskey, and Daniel McCluskey, along with nine great grandchildren.  Eva is also survived by four siblings in Scotland, Mary (George) Poutney, Agnes (Alan) Poutney, Tessa Wright, and Andrew (Jeanette) McGill along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, John and Antaszia McGill, and brothers Peter and George McGill.

The family of Eva would like to thank all of the staff, caregivers, and nurses at Grace Point Place for the wonderful and loving care that they provided to their Mother over last couple of years.  They would also like to thank everybody that was involved from ALC Hospice for time, dedication, support, and compassion that they provided in Eva’s final days.  You all truly do God’s work.
