Alvin L. Winkler

Alvin L. Winkler, 97, passed away at home on February 12, 2015.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Sonia, daughter Linda, and longtime dedicated caretaker Helen Chowaniec.

Despite contracting polio at age 16, Alvin graduated from IIT in 3 years, was president of Phi Beta Kappa, and spent his working career as a mechanical engineer in the steel industry.

Alvin had 16 patents and took great pleasure in inventing. He was a gardener and loved swimming. He was a lifetime member of Magic Masters, loved card tricks and a good joke. He also delighted in writing letters to the editor.

Resting at Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home, 5570 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn where Services will take place Monday at 11:00 am.

Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Visitation Sunday from 3 pm until 8 pm.
