Raymond F. Kufner Sr.

Raymond F. Kufner Sr., 77, formerly of Schaumburg, IL, passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer on July 10, 2014 in Surprise, AZ.

Ray, as he was best known, was born on April 8, 1937 to Frank and Irene Kufner of Chicago, IL.

Ray spent a good part of his youth participating in the daily activities of the family bakery, once located on Diversey Avenue. Ray was a graduate of Albert G. Lane Technical in 1955, an Army veteran, and an avid Cubs fan.

In 1966, Ray married Nancy L. (Stigler) in Chicago, later moving to Schaumburg, IL to raise their two children.

Ray worked for International Harvester (later Navistar), for over 34 years in the Truck Division before retiring in 1997 and later moving to Surprise, AZ with his wife Nancy.

Outside of Ray’s work career he was best known for his handyman skills; auto repairs, deck building, and other home improvements, which included woodworking. Additionally, Ray was an avid boater spending most weekends on his boat the “Little Old Style” out on the Chain O’ Lakes in Illinois.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Irene; and his beloved wife of 42 years, Nancy.

Ray is survived by his children, Raymond Jr. and Daniel; his brothers, Kenneth (Nancy), and Gary (Bobbie); his sister-in-law Gloria (Cecil); his niece Karen: his nephews, Kurt (Noel), Kenny, Greg (Jennifer), Doug (Heather), and Scottie (Tami)

He is also survived by his cherished dog and companion K.C. of 14 years.

Memorial service will be held on August 16th at Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home, 5570 W. 95th Street, Oak Lawn. Family will meet friends and neighbors from 9 a.m. to 11a.m. and then depart to Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL for a graveside service.
